6 Ways to Save Money on Your Vacation
02/02/2012 by Dave.
By: M Gravlee
The majority of people today often find that the act of going to a new and exotic location for various leisure activities is a much anticipated happening. Whether the trip is for a summer vacation, a ski trip or for that matter any special trip you need only to decide that it would be a good time to go on a trip and simply pack up. The problem is that can be an expensive proposition. Not everybody can afford to buy a plane ticket or can they afford to book a luxury accommodations or in many cases they simply do not have the necessary money to spend when they get to their chosen location for their planned vacation. If you know where to look for it traveling does not have to be expensive. If this idea interests you then you should read on.
- Use the Internet! People with access to the Internet will find it simple to search for discount travel offerings ranging from airlines, hotels, villas for rent, cruises or even car rentals. Almost all tourist related businesses around the world now have a web site so that you can go to and get the needed information before actually finishing your vacation plans. You can always call the sellers directly and get more information.
- Be flexible about the day and time you travel. During the slow days of the week you can usually find many special deals or discount prices for both airline tickets and accommodations. Airlines may offer seven or eight flights to your destination on a particular day. Say if you have to depart in the morning, check out the three or four departures that leave in the morning. Since airlines charge for tickets according to the availability of seats on the plane, moving your time by just one hour or so may save you a large amount of cash.
- You can also save is by going with a group such as a tour group, travel group or travel club. Group travel is usually arranged ahead of time by travel agencies. They buy in bulk, often chartering a whole airplane and reserving a large block of rooms to get the very lowest price.
- Book early! Make your trip plans well in advance. Book your cruise a year in advance for the vest discounts, and take advantage of low rail fares just after the holidays. If you make your reservations several months before the trip you usually can get your choice of flights and rooms at the lowest rates.
- Travel during the low season. For example, go to the Caribbean and Mexico in the summer because in the winter rates for accommodations and flights rise. Caribbean cruises are cheaper when you go in the fall versus winter or spring. Hawaii is less costly from mid-September to mid-December. Europe’s best deals are available between Thanksgiving and Easter when the Europeans are not on vacation.
- In a foreign country convert money at a local bank for the best rates. ATMs affiliated with major international banks are great, but watch out for foreign ATMs. While they usually won’t charge you a fee, your bank may charge you one! Check out your bank’s policies before you travel.
These are but a few of the countless ways you can make your vacation cost less. All you have to do is be resourceful and pick the best time to travel and you can realize that dream vacation that you have wanted so long without breaking your family budget.

How to Organize Your European Vacation
24/09/2010 by Dave.
Friends often ask me to plan their European vacations, and more specifically, their vacation in Paris. Why me? Being a native of Paris I have the inside scoop as to cheap hotels, how to get special hotel deals and other cheap vacation tips. I can also tell you about travel weather and other useful information.
The first step consists of determining who exactly is coming on this trip, your destination, the length of the trip, and when do you plan on going. Don’t forget the most important consideration- your budget. Believe me, a European tour with two year old toddlers is not the same as the same as a honeymoon or even a vacation in London with just your partner in life. Actually, traveling with a baby may be easier than traveling with a bored teenager. There are ways to get their cooperation however. Young people of all ages, including my 70 years old parents who enjoy “roughing it”, plan very economical European tours living in youth hotels.
The time of year makes a great deal of difference as well. Summer and mid winter are the peak travel seasons, but those who are looking for resort deals along the Mediterranean shores or for ski resorts in the Alps might consider late spring or early autumn. Here retirees have a distinct advantage planning for travel in Europe, or any kind of travel for that matter, since they can be more flexible.
Talking about time and dates, one of the easiest ways to save money is simply to fly out and return in the middle of the week. Airlines are getting crafty though, and “week-end” can mean Thursday to Monday! That leaves Tuesday and Wednesday as mid-week days. Still, if you do fly out on one of those days, it can save you a couple hundred dollars.
Alright, so you’ve decided on your budget, the number of people in your party, the length of stay and when you want to go. Here are a couple of scenarios.
First, let’s take a family of four - Mother, Father, 12 year old and 5 year old. This is their first time so they don’t want to be too adventurous, yet they do want to have fun. The safe part of their trip is London, since they speak English. The adventure is Paris where obviously most people speak French. So our family decides to spend a week in London, and a week in Paris during their children’s Spring Vacation which occurs in April, since that’s outside the peak travel time.
Another scenario could be two retired couples who decide to travel to Europe together. They’ve been there before and know their way around a bit. This group decides to fly to Paris, stay for a couple of days to see the sights and look up old friends, and then take a fast train down to the Mediterranean coast. There they’ll stay in Montpelier for a short visit before taking a cruise to the Greek Islands. Whether they opt for a luxury cruise or not, they will have a wonderful time at a very economical rate.
So you see, planning an European vacation is almost as much of a challenge as the vacation itself!

FlatEarth- Ideal for active family holiday

Multi Activity Holidays- package of never-to-be-forgotten experiences in Eidfjord, Norway
The holidays by Flatearth provided with ideal solution for my two teenage kids bored with their stereotype life. I decided to break our tradition way of spending our holidays, so-called “lying on the beach” holidays and pick something absolutely different. I was lucky enough to discover FlatEarth on internet offering package of sport activities (incl. instructors and all equipment needed). All sport events don’t require any particular skills, everything available for beginners (of course advanced courses were at disposal as well), so ideal for my familyJ
Of course my kids were not so thrilled about this idea, but you should have seen their faces when we were passing the countryside from the airport for Eidfjord, which is located about 300km from Bergen and 350km from Oslo. Renting a car seemed to be adequat option for us intended to stop, take a rest, admire the nature and make some pictures. The journey took us longer than we expected but we weren’t in hurry. In the late afternoon we arrived to our camping just as near the lake as possible. Eidfjord neighbours to Hardangervidda National Park which is the largest national park in Norway and man can find here everything such as wild rivers, highland, fjords, lakes, waterfalls and glacier, why go anywhere else?
Just near the FlatEarth centre is unique restaurant with goats feeding on the grass on the roof, never seen anything like that before. According to our schedule next few days were fully occupied with sea kayaking, white water kayaking, glacier expedition, climbing, abseiling and canoe rental. Everything in one week, quite challenging‼ I must admit that I was bit worried how we can keep up but the instructors adjusted the tempo to our physical shape and we have overcome ourselves. And the kids just loved it. Not only the spectacular nature of Norway but also all these activities were really fun. During the last days we decided to explore the beauties of fjord and we took canoes. That day we got reallt lucky. We got to see 3 beautiful dolphins few meters from us, we all were amazed.
Eidfjord is magnific small, quiet place, but you can find there anything you want. Plenty of hotels with typical norwegian interior, cottages, campings, pubs and lots of events are taken place in here representing natural values and traditions.
Multi Activity Holidays by FlatEarth was extraordinary and I can only recommend it to those of you interested in exploring loveliness of unspoilt nature, not damaged by industrial civilization.
