A tale of two holidays: beach and city holidays in Egypt
26/09/2011 by Dave.
The term ‘outdoor museum’ gets knocked around a lot these days, particularly in reference to the city of Rome and several of the Greek islands as well as the capital Athens. This is not an unfair description of these places; the sheer number of ancient landmarks still standing for us to admire and photograph is truly remarkable. However, another place that perhaps claims a greater stake in this outdoor museum definition is Egypt. From the Pyramids to the Sphinx, the Valley of the Kings and Queens, Thebes and Karnak, Egypt is dotted with remnants of just one ancient civilization, and being one of the most powerful, intelligent, creative and industrious, the landmarks still induce questions, conundrums and gasps of amazement.
Obviously, there is much to see in Egypt, however 95% of it is comprised of desert. The remaining amount is a fertile valley running along the banks of the Nile from where the majority of the Ancient Egyptian sights can be found as well as the bustling, crowded, chaotic but endearing capital city of Cairo.
However, not everyone comes to Egypt for its history. A huge number of tourists come to its beaches. Whether in Hurghada or the peninsula resort of Sharm-el-Sheikh, tourists flock in their millions to plush, modern hotels, palm lined beaches and oasis like swimming pools. However, for many the real draw isn’t what’s on land, but what’s in the water. The Red Sea lays claim to some of the best scuba diving and snorkelling in the world. From vibrant coloured coral reefs to preserved-in-time shipwrecks, the sea is alive with activity, colour and intrigue. Here you can swim with giant manta rays, warily admire reef sharks and snap rainbow coloured fish with your underwater camera.
Egypt offers something quite unique. There are few places that offer so much of so many things. However, the country is large, as we mentioned above it’s mostly desert and the roads aren’t exactly well maintained; therefore two-centre holidays are advisable if you want to make the most of this incredibly country. A great way to get the most for your money is with a cruise and stay package. You can cruise along the Nile, the flowing heart of Egypt’s ancient and modern culture from Cairo to Aswan and then you can hop on over to Hurghada for a relaxing beach break or scuba diving trip.

Cruise Ship Living Is Catching On
24/09/2010 by Dave.
Well, living on a Cruise Ship is catching on.
Quite a few couples are now subscribing to world cruises and it is affecting the Cruise Ship industry.
In 2006 the Holland America Line is experiencing a 20 percent increase in the number of cruises longer than 12 days.
For 2007, the demand for world cruises for Cunard is so great the company is having two world cruises, including the Queen Mary 2’s first voyage around the world, an 80-day journey.
Silversea Cruises, a very, very exclusive Cruise Line has just launched a series of voyages of 34 to 123 days and is having its first around-the-world cruise in 2007.
And Crystal Cruises Inc. spokeswoman Mimi Weisband said that they saw a record number of bookings for this year’s 106-day world cruise.
Why is this happening?
Nobody likes flying anymore. It is not relaxing, you are stuffed like sardines in a tin can, you have to bring your own lunch, and have to take off your shoes.
Now think about cruising.
You’ve got your house with you, wherever you go, just like a turtle.
You get taken care of, whatever you need. Medical Care is close by, so are 10 bars and 4 restaurants open 24 hours a day in most cases.
You don’t have to pack and unpack every day as with regular vacations, you can spend leisurely days playing pingpong and shuffleboard and relaxing with longtime friends.
The key selling theme for these long cruises is COMFORT.
You can see and do exotic things from 10 AM to 12 PM, go for lunch, and do more exotic things from 2 PM till 7 PM and then have a 10 course supper.
After supper there is a free show every night.
Perfect life
Rather than sitting in a summer cottage staring at the walls, on a cruise you have your social life built in, with 2000 possible friends.
Cruise lines say another key attraction is that now you can visit plenty of far-flung destinations - such as Hawaii and Tahiti- without dealing with airport security and other hassles.
The funny thing is that these Cruises are no longer exclusively populated by retired Seniors, but are becoming populated by entrepreneurial 40- and 50-people, who can turn the ship into a virtual, floating office.
You can successfully run a business from being on a ship, because of Wireless Internet Access worldwide available on these Cruise Ships.
Destinations are also being changed by the Cruise Ship industry; more and more exotic itineraries are being visited, because people like change, and if you have never seen the Pyramids, now is your chance on a 12 day Cruise.
The costs of a world cruise are no longer prohibitive, in 2005 a 100 day cruise could be had for $16,000 per person, that is $160 a day for travel, food, guided tours, shows and companionship.
Some people do this in their 30’s, saying that they want to enjoy this while they can.
Others do this after they get a divorce, as a consolation prize to themselves.
As the demand for World Cruises increases, at some point in time entrepreneurs are going to buy a Cruise Ship at a reasonable price and are going to turn it into Condominiums.
Guess who will buy one of the first ones.

Unconvential honeymoon in Norway
15/03/2010 by steffi.
Me and my husband got ourselves attracted by beauties of Norway and spent our honeymoon by walking on glacier, kayaking on white water and climbing..
We are both to active to spend all day doing nothing, lying on the beach, so it was unanimous agreement to undertake something challenging. So we discovered by intensive searching, Multi Activity Holidays by FlatEarth in Ovre Eidfjord. It is a package of various outdoor activities conducted with instructor and FlatEarth provides with all equipment (so you don’t have to own paddles, harness or ice axe). All activities take place in breath taking nature of Norway.
Eidfjord can be found in Hardangervidda National Park which belongs to the largest national parks in Europe. Eidfjord takes advantage of its unique position by offering glaciers, fjords, mountains, wild river, lakes to its curious and eager visitors. Eidfjord is to be reached by taking train from Bergen or Oslo and afterwards bus from Geilo taking you directly to this place. Journey was pleasant as I could not have enough of observing the passing by environment.
We were accommodated in Eidfjord Gjestgiveri knwon for its traditional recipe of pancakes (which are delightful by the way). It was situated about 1 minute from FlatEarth centre so we did not have to use any other way of transport. The transport for particular activity was provided by FlatEarth.
We’ve been taken care of, I must admit, in all possible waysJ FlatEarth provided us a complete service not only by all booked activities but also by its indivual approach, trying to adjust the schedule to our requirements and circumstances. The staff was very helpful and kind, interested in us as humans and not just as “subject of future gains”, which was nice change after our some unpleasant experiences from the past. We were treated as friends, as part of the company. That was why we extended our stay for few more days and spent them hiking and wandering in the Hardangervidda in the routes recommended by them.
I have to say that it was perfect way of celebrating our love, the commitment. The rush of adrenalin, excitment of discovering of unknown areas, was the perfect beginning of our marriage. FlatEarth, thank you so much‼‼
