Best Destinations for a Family Holiday in 2012
01/02/2012 by Dave.
Finding a family destination for your next holiday is easier than ever. More and more resorts and cities are finding families to be the best bet for tourism. Cheap holidays are available in all of these locations with a little advance planning and information. Consider one of these destinations when planning your next getaway as a family:
Disney Theme Parks
Nobody beats Disney for family fun. From the original Disneyland in Anaheim, California (USA) and Walt Disney World in Florida to Disneyland Paris, Hong Kong Disney, Tokyo Disney and even Disney Cruises, Mickey, Minnie and the rest of the gang will have you and your kids laughing, dancing and having a great time from the moment you step into the park or onto the ship.
Hilton Waikoloa Village
On the west side of Hawaii’s Big Island is a resort haven for both adults and kids. Built on 62 acres, the resort offers golf, canals for boating, tram transportation throughout the resort, a whole host of activities for all ages and a four-acre saltwater lagoon with waterfall. The weather is always perfect in Hawaii and the island itself offers everything from active volcanoes to a bird preserve and flower gardens.
Rome
Old and young alike will find something to enjoy in this famous old city. Italian beaches alone are worth the trip and the weather is accommodating nearly all year round. Of course the Colosseum and the Spanish Steps are must-sees, with the added benefit that the kids can tire themselves out running up and down the steps. Farmers’ markets are fun and full of colour and sound, and you can find excellent bargains as well. Rent a condo or small apartment; buy your food at the markets and save more money by preparing your own healthy meals.
Munich
An often-overlooked destination, Bavaria offers the castle of Mad King Ludwig (Neuschwanstein Castle), which is fun for kids and adults alike. Very close to the castle is the Garmisch-Partenkirhen ski resort, which offers skiing in the winter and other activities during the summer months, like mountain biking and hiking. Don’t forget a stop at Munich’s Deutsches Museum, full of technology and touchable exhibits. For older children, the Dachau concentration camp is a stark reminder that history isn’t just in textbooks.
Slovenia
Slovenia is a unique destination that avoids the hordes of people found in the more traditional locations. The cost of living is low, meaning accommodation and dining is reasonable. Slovenia offers an outstanding variety of things to do, from camping, skiing and other winter activities to white-water rafting or just sunbathing on the beach. Some of the holiday parks allow kids to stay for free, and many of Slovenia’s campsites include pools, playgrounds and activities for the kids.
Turkey
The country’s rich history and culture, warm climate and tons of activities make Turkey a natural draw. Many hotels offer free stays for children, and either the Aegean coast or the Turkish Riviera are perfect locations for sun, fun and family time together.

What To Look For In A Travel Agent
19/01/2012 by Dave.
By: M Gravlee
Most travel agents are in the business to not only make money but to also serve their fellow travelers. Most current travel agents are experienced travelers who enjoy traveling and want to help make your trips more enjoyable.
Travel agents can help you sort through vast amounts of information so you can make the most beneficial travel arrangements. They offer advice on destinations and make bookings for transportation, hotel accommodations, car rentals, and tours for you. They are also book the most tickets for the major cruise lines. Also, resorts and specialty travel groups use travel agents to promote their travel packages.
Agents are also expected to know about and be able to advise you about your destination, such as the weather, attractions, customs and events. Travel agents can provide information on customs regulations, required papers (passports, visas, and certificates of vaccination), travel advisories, and currency exchange rates. If you need to change your itinerary in the middle of a trip, they can make alternate booking arrangements.
Travel agents use many sources for information on departure and arrival times, fares, quality of hotel accommodations, and discounts. They should also visit hotels, resorts, and restaurants to better evaluate the comfort, cleanliness, and their quality.
When you select a travel agent be sure that the person is truly interested in the travel industry and not just the money which they can make from it. According to the latest estimates provided the travel industry has become one of the world s fastest growing occupations today.
Keep in mind that a well versed travel agent is worth their weight in gold. They should be intimate with subjects such as touring, hospitality services, lodging, air travel, airport operation, cruises and theme parks. A well rounded agent is a valuable asset to an organization. If you sense that your travel agent feels that he can make a difference in whether you have an enjoyable trip or not then you have found a jewel in the making. A good agent specially one specializing in leisure travel should want to help their clients to learn about various cultures and they should be willing to go to all lengths to achieve this result.
Ensure that the agent you select has the necessary talent to be in that positions, the energy to obtain the needed information for you should you require additional data and a good work ethics. Keep in mind that our current work at home society has enable tens of thousands of travel agents to literally work from their home. Don’t underestimate these work at home people for they put just as much effort into satisfying their customers as does one with a store front shop. In some cases since their overhead is lower you stand a good chance to gain from lower ticket prices. These agents are well worth checking out.
Often times a travel agent will specialize in a particular sort of travel such as singles travel reservations or elderly travel plans or perhaps their specialty is in a particular region or a lifestyle. Occasionally you may want to partake of some of these great savings that this type of agent can offer you. Get to know them as a professional acquaintance and you will be glad you did.
If you happen to be interested in taking a cruise with or without any specialized requirements your travel agent should be able to handle this request with no difficulty. Whether the cruise you are interested in is a luxury cruise, a barge cruise or a river cruise they can handle it all. Usually you can contact them by e mail or by phone to learn more about the programs they are currently offering.
Perhaps you do not care so much for an ocean cruise but would rather prefer a land vacation. Possibly you have always dreamed of visiting Tahiti. If so then now is the time to sit down and discuss all your desires with your travel agent. They can make a difference in whether your trip is enjoyable or one that is a nightmare.

Winter Sun Flights From the UK
19/01/2012 by Dave.
By: Dan Williams
With the recent cold spell lasting what seemed several weeks, many residents in the UK would have been looking at the daily temperatures and yearning for something warmer. The early weeks of January are usually the busiest time of the year for holiday bookings. With the festive season now over, thoughts turn to holidays and the volume of travel advertising trying to attract our attention increases to new levels.
For many who take just one holiday every year, decisions will be made about where to spend the main summer break, but for those lucky enough to afford the time and cost of more than one holiday, an additional winter sun break will provide an attractive change from the freezing weather we have experienced in the UK recently. There are many alternative destinations providing warmer climates than the UK and to show the options available I’ll look at three resorts than are located just a two hour flight, a four hour flight and a six hour flight from the UK.
For someone wishing to fly for just two hours then the Balearic Islands of Spain provide the nearest location for a warmer winter break. Daytime temperatures can reach 15 degrees Celsius in January and February which is very mild in comparison to UK temperatures at that time of year. Not exactly hot but certainly more pleasant than staying at home and the traveller has the choice of Majorca, Menorca and Ibiza a destination. While heat may not be guaranteed, sunshine almost certainly is, as Majorca typically records over 300 days of sunshine every year. Rain is also unlikely to be a problem with islands like Majorca receiving the heaviest falls between September and November.
Stay on a flight for a little longer and four hours travel will allow someone to reach the Canaries, a group of islands belonging to Spain yet situated just 100 kilometers off the North African coast. Here average daytime temperatures in February are a warm 19 degrees Celsius and holidaymakers can expect an average of 7 hours sunshine every day. Not only will the weather prove pleasant, but the resorts of the Canaries are used to winter travelers and have far more going on than those of the Balearics. The reason for these warm conditions result from the Islands’ location – Tenerife is on the same latitude as Florida – and also the mountainous areas of islands like Tenerife which prevent the moist Trade Winds from reaching southern parts of the island.
A four hour flight will also take the UK traveler to the Mediterranean island, where 6 hours sunshine per day will await along with average daytime temperatures in January and February of 12 degrees Celsius. Cyprus is experiencing a resurgence of popularity with resorts such as Paphos and Larnaca attracting many visitors. The Larnaca Dhekelia Bay boasts one of the longest beaches in Europe and has received blue flag awards for cleanliness. The airport at Larnaca is only 9 kilometers from the resorts however over sea flight paths reduce aircraft noise to a minimum.
Finally the more determined winter sun seeker may opt for a six hour flight and venture as far as the The Gambia, which although situated on the west coast of Africa is on the same time zone as he UK . Here the average daytime temperature during December to February is a very pleasant 24 degrees Celsius and rain is highly unlikely. Gambia has a very pronounced rainy season between July and September. Outside of these months the country experiences a long dry season which makes it particularly attractive to UK winter holidaymakers. The small city of Banjul is the capital and is also home to the airport which brings in flights from numerous northern European countries. Tourism is important to the country and recent investment has seen dramatic improvements to the airport and surrounding road infrastructure. If sitting in the sun on a beach by the sea in January is what you desire, then Gambia could well be your ideal destination.
Author Resource:-> Dan Williams has written extensively about holiday destinations worldwide. For anyone interested in the winter sun breaks described, flights to Paphos in Cyprus and flights to Gambia are now provided by FlyThomasCook via their website http://book.flythomascook.com

Top European Resorts
26/10/2011 by Dave.
If you are looking for a holiday destination in Europe this year then here are
some of the places which should be appearing on your shortlist of best locations
to visit.
The first destination you may wish to consider is the romantic cultural city
that is Frances capital, Paris. When visiting Paris there are the obvious sights
of the Arc de Triomph, the Eiffel Tower and the Louvre. However, Paris has lots
more on offer than these sights with romantic walks through the historic areas
and shopping in some of the world`s most famous boutiques.
Other European capitals you may wish to visit on a city break holiday include
Berlin with the remnants of the Berlin Wall, the Sistine Chapel in the Vatican
City, or the world heritage site of Croatia`s Dubrovnik Castle. All of these
cities offer you culture, romance and historic views at reasonable prices.
For those who are lovers of sand and sea then Europe has many beaches to offer.
The first choice of beach destinations would be Turkey and the golden sands
along the Turkish Riviera. With mile upon mile of beaches and endless sunshine
Turkey has a lot to offer those who want a traditional sunshine holiday. If
however you want to be slightly more adventurous then you could try a Gulet
cruise on a traditional Turkish boat around the many islands along the
coastline.
Another top destination for beach holidays is Cyprus. Cyprus is known for the
beaches and fun activities that are available. If you are staying in Cyprus then
you must try some of the numerous water sports that are on offer from
windsurfing to sea kayaking; Cyprus is a haven for water lovers.
The Balearic Islands are another top destination for sun worshipers. The islands
host plenty of sandy beaches, restaurants, water parks, night life and water
sports. There are also other family attractions available and trips on pirate
ships that take you out into the Mediterranean Sea for the day.
The final top destination in Europe is the Spanish Costa Blanca and the Spanish
holiday destination that we are all familiar with Benidorm. There is a lot more
to Benidorm than the night life and beach. There are plenty of attractions and
theme parks in the local area that are great for the single traveller or a
family. The train runs to Alicante and is a great way to see the coastline
between the two cities. If you decide on a cheap holiday in Benidorm then
it is worthwhile considering some excursions out of Benidorm to the surrounding countryside.

Family Holiday - Top Tips
25/10/2011 by Dave.
Most families try to have at least one holiday a year together. The family
holiday is looked forward to with great excitement. So how can you make sure
your family has a memorable and fun holiday?
The first and most important thing to think about is the age of your family
members and what you like doing as a family. If your children are young then you
will probably be looking for a holiday near a beach. If the children are older
then you need to make sure there are activities they can do such as sailing,
canoeing or rock climbing. If you have a family where there is a mixed range of
ages make sure there is something for everyone to do.
If you have a number of competing interests then try allocating a day to each
member of the family and letting them choose what to do on that day. That way
each member of the family will have had the opportunity to do the thing they
most wanted to on holiday.
Think carefully about accommodation. There is always a wide range of choices
from self catering cottages through to camping. Self catering, whether it is in
a holiday villa or camping can be a wonderful opportunity to spend some quality
time together as a family without the distractions to be found at home. However
you need to make sure that one person is not spending all their time cooking and
cleaning up after everyone and it is a shared experience. For other families
hotels are the best choice of accommodation, especially resort hotels where all
meals are included. The location of your holiday accommodation can also help
make a holiday memorable. A good view and plenty of facilities nearby are key
when it comes to choosing memorable holiday accommodation.
Researching the area you are going on holiday to and have some suggested ideas
of things to do is also a good idea. Sometimes you feel you are getting to know
an area only as you leave it, whereas with a little bit of forward planning you
can have plenty of things to suggest as family outings or activities.
Hiring a car on holiday gives you flexibility and means you can go on day trips
to places which are slightly further afield. There are ways of making sure your
hire car costs are kept to a minimum. A holiday car doesn`t need to be very big
but make sure there is enough space to accommodate all the family plus car seats
if you have young children. Cramming the family into a very small car if you are
planning to do lots of travelling is sure to lead to arguments. Booking online
and in advance is one of the best ways of getting budget hire cars.

Winter Getaway Guide
25/10/2011 by Dave.
One of the best types of holiday has to be the winter getaway. Whether a trip to
somewhere hot and sunny to forget about those dark winter days, or somewhere
that we can get our skis on and really enjoy the cold, then the winter getaway
is the must do. Shorter holidays are often what we choose as many of us have
taken those longer breaks over summer. That means that European holidays are
perhaps the best choice as the flights are not particularly long and there are
so many places to choose from.
Countries in southern Europe including Spain, Portugal, Greece, Italy and Turkey
all offer good weather in the winter months and sometimes you may prefer to
visit these countries in winter as the temperatures can be extremely high in the
summer months. The Balearic Islands, located off the southern coast of Spain are
made up of Minorca, Majorca, Ibiza and Formentera and these are all very popular
destinations throughout the year, particularly as all of them cater for tourists
very well.
Also for sun seekers, the Canary Islands, which are near the north west coast of
mainland Africa, have plenty of sunny spots to choose from, including Gran
Canaria, Tenerife and Lanzarote. With average temperatures of 19 degrees and
very little rainfall in December, the Canary Islands offer a real winter
getaway. Each island has its own personality and whether you are looking for a
family getaway, a sport and activity holiday, plenty of nightlife or just
somewhere with lots of quiet beaches, then the Canaries have it all on offer.
As with the Canary Islands, the Greek Islands offer something for everyone.
Rhodes has 300 days of sunshine a year and there is plenty of nightlife
available. Corfu, Kos and Zante are also popular destinations. For those looking
for something a little quieter then Naxos retains a strong Greek identity and
has easy access to other Greek Islands and Ithaca is a very quiet island
offering lots of beautiful landscapes and a glimpse of rural life.
For those of us who prefer the colder winter breaks, then there are plenty of
options on offer for skiing and winter sports. France, Italy, Austria and
Switzerland are just some of the countries offering ideal breaks for winter
sports.
Whether you want sun, sea and sand on your winter getaway, or whether you prefer
to be out on the ski slopes then First Choice have plenty of options available to make
sure you choose the best deals for your winter getaway.

The Skiing holidays selection process - What you need to consider
28/09/2011 by Dave.
Booking skiing holidays can be a bit of a daunting business for the inexperienced. Despite the fact that it is now easier than ever to book online through many tour operators, deciding exactly when and where to go can seem pretty complicated. There are simply more factors to consider, compared to what you need to think about when booking your summer holiday. However, you are not the first person to find yourself making these choices, and as long as you are aware of the following issues you should be able to pick something that best suits your needs.
Starting at the beginning of the trip, you should think about which airports you wish to fly from. The location for many skiing holidays means that the nearest airports are quite small, and only a limited number of airports back home connect. Travelling within the UK to the right airport can potentially add a significant chunk of travel time to your journey, and money to your holiday budget, and so you need to bear this in mind when looking at the possibilities. Indeed, starting with the airports that you wish to travel from can be a good way to narrow down the possible locations for skiing holidays.
The night life at some of the resorts can amount to what is almost a separate holiday in itself. For some, the night life is as important as the skiing itself, and you need to be aware of this when you start looking at reviews of skiing holidays. Many resorts which are home to good, well established ski schools and feature an adequate selection of starter runs for beginners may also offer little in the way of nightlife, and so will often not rate that highly in certain quarters. The chances are that if you are new to skiing holidays you’ll want the focus of the experience to be on the slopes rather than a nightclub, but those that want a bit of both would do well to keep in mind the fact that many ski resorts are based around small rural mountain towns with limited entertainment facilities.
Moving along to a more technical and indeed important consideration for skiing holidays, you must make sure that you check out the average coverage and snowfall in the resort you are looking at, for the time of year that you are thinking about visiting. Taking alpine Europe as an example, there are dozens of resorts, each at different altitudes. The higher resorts will enjoy a longer season than those further down the mountain where the temperatures do not stay as low for as long. While the higher altitude resorts may enjoy a longer season, they may also be quieter. Tour operators running ski holidays will of course want to get the most out of the season. This can mean that towards the beginning, and especially near the end of the season, certain bargain offers may come at the cost of poor skiing conditions.

Benefits of Guide Books
14/06/2011 by Dave.
Being prepared for a trip gives you a better chance to enjoy your upcoming trip even before you head out the door. In most countries there are tourist information services that can provide you with guide books, as well as a great variety of planners, booklets, brochures, maps, and everything necessary to make your trip a unique experience to have as much fun as possible during your stay in what ever destination you chose.
In fact, not only through official and service channels can you get guide books, maps and other material to plan your trip but also through books stores where there are a wide range of resources and advice for anyone, whether you are traveling on luxurious budget or on a slim budget. One of these notorious resources which has attained fame for its commercial success is Route 66, Traveler’s Guide and Roadside Companion by Tom Snyder.
“It’s tempting to think of old Route 66, stretching from Chicago to Los Angeles, as a happy accident”, introduces Bobby Troup to which is considered the first modern guide to driving Route 66, a USA Highway became the most famous road in the American highway system and possibly the most storied highway in the world, that originally ran from Chicago, Illinois through Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, Arizona and California before ending at the beach at Santa Monica for a total distance of 2,448 miles (3,940 km).
This Traveler’s Guide depicts the importance and use of Guide Books, being such a long way to follow up, it would be hard to make the whole route 66 without maps and other useful readable tools to complete the trip satisfactorily. Tom Snyder not only compiled the main points and attractions alongside the road from its starting point to its opposite end, but he has thoughtfully separated the driving directions.
Guide Books like these include his trove of route 66 related anecdotes named as “Roadside Companion” to make the guide even more useful. Additionally to this fact, one of the book’s most distinctive features are several reproductions of period maps from the Automobile Club of Southern California, but over which the route of the modern Interstate was superimposed, giving to the reader at a glance a perspective of the road ahead before start the trip itself.
If your are wondering how guide books may serve you, have a look at Route 66, Traveler’s Guide and Roadside Companion to find the answer, though a book that is fun to read and totally helpful for planning a Route 66 drive, to use as an example to learn how to plan for many other travels to any other location worldwide.

12 Critical Tips to saving on Airport Parking
14/06/2011 by Dave.
Off-site airport parking is a boon for travelers. Often they prove to be cheaper than parking lots run by airports and online discounts and other conveniences make the option even more attractive.
Satellite parking lots face competition and so it is easy for those in the know to save big.
Here are a few insights:1. Keep a tab on offers. As the race for success becomes intense, all sites run attractive offers giving away coupons or web only deals. Many offer an e-coupon that entitles the user to a day’s free parking at selected parking lots. This means a saving of US$ 18. Other offers give away a day if you park for two days or 50% off on the first days parking fee.2. If you are a frequent user of parking lots check for offers where a parking operator with a major presence near airports you use offers a 50% discount if you purchase a certain number of parking vouchers online or on the phone using your credit card.3. Many parking sites have a different rate for different parking positions. Check on the kinds of parking and rate differences. You could save up to $ 55 for a seven day parking.
4. Ask for rates depending on the length of stay. Rates vary so if you are going to need parking for a week then you could get a higher discount than the daily rate on offer.
5. Many run a frequent user program where repeat customers are offered many facilities. This is similar to frequent flier programs.
6. Find out if the lots you use offer special discounts to members of AARP, AAA, or other such organizations. In fact, AA members save between 10-20% on parking. Some sites even offer the service of picking up and dropping your car from the airport terminal.
7. Do your research well compare providers, the rates on offer, as well as facilities at the place you need to park. If you are clever you can get more for less.
8. Before you travel use the internet to check on daily and weekly parking offers. There are free days, discounted weekly rates, and guaranteed rates on offer at various times. You can avail the offer by making a booking online or printing out the page with a code and presenting it to the cashier at the parking lot.
9. Keep track of promotions especially during holiday seasons. Many lots accept coupons and give away discounts offered by consumer products
10. Often pre-booking parking can get you a saving of even 60% and more.
11. Hotels often offer parking specials, so make use of the extra facility being offered by the hotel you plan to stay in.
12. Some travel agents who book flight tickets offer advice or coupons for parking at the point of exit and entry. Ask you agent when you book your flight.
Off site parking is not just fast and convenient it can be a saving too.
